Shipping a Pillow Overseas — Why Does It Cost So Much?
← Shipping Guide / What can I send?
Why is it so expensive to send a pillow overseas when it is so light?

Some customers find this confusing, so here is the explanation.
For international air shipments, carriers weigh a parcel in two ways and compare them. Whichever weight is greater is used to calculate the shipping charge.
The two ways are:
Method 1 — once the goods are packed in the box, weigh it to get the actual weight.
Method 2 — once the goods are packed in the box, measure its width × length × height and divide by 5,000. The result is the box’s dimensional (volumetric) weight.
Then compare the two weights — the greater one is used for the shipping charge.
A pillow is light but large, fluffy and takes up a lot of space, so its dimensional weight is greater than its actual weight — and it is charged by its size.
This is an international rule that every courier company follows.
