How to calculate

How to Calculate
Shipping Cost

International shipping charges are generally determined by comparing two types of weight — the actual weight and the dimensional weight of your parcel.

Try it: enter your parcel’s weight and size, and the calculator shows which weight you will be charged for.

Dimensional weight = L × W × H ÷ 5,000. The greater of the two weights is generally used.

Two Weights, One Billable Weight

Actual Weight

The physical weight of the packed parcel, including its packaging.

Dimensional Weight (Volumetric Weight)

Calculated using the parcel’s outside dimensions:

Length × Width × Height ÷ 5,000

Dimensions are measured in centimetres, and the result is expressed in kilograms. The applicable measurement and rounding rules depend on the carrier and service selected.

Billable Weight

For eligible parcel services, the greater of the actual weight and dimensional weight is generally used to determine the billable weight.

Example — try your own numbers

Work It Out Step by Step

  1. Actual weight: 5 kg
  2. Dimensional weight: 40 × 30 × 30 ÷ 5,000 = 7.2 kg
  3. Billable weight: the greater one — 7.2 kg

Light but bulky — charged by its size.

Change any number above and the steps update. For illustration only — the carrier’s own rounding rules apply.

Good to know

UPS and DHL Express may apply service-specific requirements. The final shipping charge may also include applicable surcharges and other fees.

Tip

Measure and weigh your parcel accurately before requesting a shipping quote. The carrier may verify the measurements and weight before confirming the final charge.
